What is the problem with my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer that it won't start?

The interior lights come on; the headlights work; and the dashboard (odomoter) and radio lights work. The battery indicator goes up to about 1/4 (maybe a bit more).

It only makes a sound like it's trying to move the steering column or something when I turn the key. It makes absolutely NO noise when I turn the key other than that, so it's not trying to start / turn over. (Perhaps it's the solenoid?)

I want to call triple A to see if they can jump the battery; however, like I said, I don't think it's the battery. I'll probably have to end up getting them to tow it to the dealer.

Same thing happened to my 2005... The alternator is dead bud. I had a wire that was exposed that was causing it to short out and the alternator to stop working. You're not moving that thing without a tow or replacing that thing. The steering column being stuck was a dead give away.

it probably IS your battery......you need at least 12VDC to crank your car(I think)> When you call AAA they will let you know. It could be your alternator is NOT charging your battery as you drive. It could be your starter, but I don't think so.

1. battery.
2. Starter.
3.alternator ( if you jump it and it starts, then you drive it and goes dead.)

Vehicle has to be in park or neutral to start.

Even a low Battery will supply enough energy to power lights and some other.

It takes a lot to turn the starter.

If you have AAA - call them - they can check the battery terminals and test the voltage reading - full charge is 12.66V. Batt has to have at least 9.6V to work the computer and much more to turn the starter.

Doesn't sound like the battery, sound like your starter is out. Call AAA and have them tow to a shop where they can confirm. The ignition/starter are notorious to go out in newer GMs

It kind of sounds like the starter is broken. That's pretty easy to replace if I remember correctly. Call a garage and ask them. They'll ask you questions about it and then ask you to describe it. But to me it sounds like it's the starter. (I agree, it doesn't sound like the battery).

Sorry, I can't help you.
but i am glad i read your question because I was getting ready to buy one for the new year...
Guess I will just stick to foreign cars/SUV's/ etc..........

but good luck with that
