What is the problem with my 2001 Mazda 626 LX?

Okay so this morning I go in my car and it turns on and everything but when I put it in reverse and step on the gas it didn't move all it did was just make that car sound. (the sound when its moving) I tried it in drive, 2, 1, and reverse and nothing happened it just made that sound cars make when they run. Another thing is that the speedometer stick didn't move but the tachometer did.

I have heard that the Mazda 626 has problems with transmission. Could this be a transmission problems
