What is the point of the WWF (world wildlife fund)?

I just dont understand what they do. They are suppost to help polar bears and what not, and they have commercials on all the time asking for you to send them money, but what i dont understand is, how does sending them money help the polar bears? They cnat like just make an ice caqp in the middle of the ocean. So, what is the point? How does sending the WWF money help the polar bears?
 
They lobby to preserve land in places where polar bears are that are also wanted by businesses such as oil drillers or to prevent shipping lanes from going through their territory.
