He's a frail 73 year old man. Everybody knows what he did. He's going to spend the rest of his life behind bars. So what is the point of a long expensive trial? Does it really matter what the exact sentence is? Why not use the money that the trial will cost to help out victims of similar crimes?
I'm not suggesting he's let off! I was just saying that they should lock him up and throw away the key and save the time and money of a trial.

Human rights, no matter what you've done your always entitled to them... However, if I had my way.......... end of answer.

Every one is entitled to a fair trail. Age is irrelevant. So should we give up looking for people who are responsible for Nazi war crimes?

It seems to have served a purpose in that before the trail he maintained his innocence against half the charges and now, having seen his daughter's testimonye, he has admitted his full guilt and apologised. It's not nearly enough, but I would imagine it gives Elisabeth a little closure on the horrific torture he put her through for 24 years.

It's the law you can't just let people off because they r old, may as well scrape all laws then. ok no it's his right to be tried by a court, we can't expect that right for ourselves and refuse it to others, the law has to apply to all in equal measure.

Partly, he needs to be officially convicted at trial.

Partly because the family (and nowadays the world) need to hear the whole details and have him say he's guilty and admit what he's done. Just putting him in jail indefinitely without a trial gives the family no closure.
