wow i really care what someone did in the PAST?? i dont even know them not like there were my grandma. so why do we have to learn about it??

I could give you the common old answer "So we can learn from past mistakes" but I'll give you the answer I believe. So we can learn why society and culture and all that stuff is all the way it is.
