What is the point of having bubbles in a freshwater tropical fish tank?

I have a bubble wall powered by a air pump thats on ALL day long. Is it really necessary for leaving it on?
 
The bubbles that rise to the surface Create agitation of the water, same with the splash from the filter. Only when the water is disturbed does the carbon dioxide get released from the water and the Oxygen get in. The bubble's aren't air themselves but the breaking of the surface they create lets it in. Yes you should have at least one air pump running 24/7 same as your filter.
 
Yes, fish need oygen to live, so they have to have a air pump on constantly so that the oxygen supply does not become depleted :)

Not necessary but good for the fish. A bubblier reduces the nitrates. Also in Natural environments fish have currents, that creates oxygen, that the fish need. Just keep it.
