What is the point in making a show for Teletoon?

There's a problem, though...

Most of Teletoon's current original series are Flash-Animated, and some people might think they're all cheap and lazy, which annoys me. :shrug:
 
I'd assume ratings *do* matter to Teletoon and most other Canadian networks, most of said networks being commercial like their US bretheren; a big exception being CBC, which is supported by the government (but still airs commercials), along with some regional noncommercial networks like TVOntario (an Ontario-only version of our PBS).

Canada does offer various tax breaks for producing entertainment within its borders---one reason Hollywood likes going up there to shoot films. As others noted, Canada gives such support to help develop its own entertainment industry (versus merely relying on airing imported American shows only---which they get as it is anyway), to the point that Canadian broadcasters are also required to air a minimum level of shows with Canadian content in them (or Canadian-produced).

If anything, I figured Canada's animation industry seems pretty strong as far as I can tell, with several major animation studios there (Nelvana, etc.).
 
Seriously? Teletoon is the same as CN here, France3 in Europe. They broadcast shows that they think will bring in viewers. Viewer numbers up the prices they charge for adds. It seems they carry shows that mix a bit of US with some of Europe. They make originals based on what sells in their market. The ones that make it to the US are based on what our broadcasters think will sell ad time. There is also a saying,,, If your show is a hit in Canada, it will be dumped in US. At least that's what the Downtown creator said. ;)
 
It should be noted that several Canadian series haven't seen the light of day in the US but have aired worldwide. I'm surprised CN US hasn't picked up Being Ian yet, considering how fitting it is for them. It's hilarious series, with truly wild and fantastic animation (almost Ed, Edd & Eddy level)
 
What about the fact that Canada has some law set up that mandates that a certain percentage of shows has to be Canadian made compared to imported shows?
 
I know that feeling, I had to import the first season set of Class of the Titans because I was so curious and there was no other reliable way of seeing it. Thank goodness the show doesn't suck, would've been a pain if I spent money on a show that did.
 
Again, you're judging Canadian numbers by American standards, which is the same flawed reasoning that you've been employing since you started this discussion.

And doing so provides jobs for people and promotes Canadian culture as well as filling out their TV schedule and making Canada a contender in the TV market, so the answer to "Is it worth spending so much on such little (by 'Ugly American' standards anyway) viewers?" is


YES.

Now, can we please lay this pointless topic to rest? The discussion is becoming circular; the OP keeps repeating the same questions and people are reiterating the same points over and over again.
 
So let me get this straight.
Ratings don't matter because teletoon gets money from the government.
So if teletoon gets like 4 viewers they will still have profit from the government?
Just wanna see if i get this.
