What is the point in making a show for Teletoon?

Teletoon is only seen in 7 million homes in Canada so wouldn't Teletoons best ratings be like 100,000? It woud cost 3 times more to make 1 episode! So I am asking what is the point in making a program just for Teletoon? And what about Finland? Only 5 million people live there so like a TV channel would only be in 2 million homes? What is the point?

This is kinda...out of nowhere. Can you explain why you think it is important to state your feelings on how it would be unnecesary to make a show for Teletoon in the small amount of time it will take to lock this thread?

I'd imagine selling the shows to international markets would probably help increase revenue. Also, some Teletoon shows are co-productions, so that helps lower the production costs. For example, George of the Jungle is partially funded by Teletoon and partially by Cartoon Network.

The point is that people in Canada and Finland need to work in order to earn money to survive and provide for their families and like to watch cartoons just as much as we do.

Seriously, where are you getting this information? Sorry, but you're not making a whole lot of sense here.

Canadians have as much rights to make and air cartoons as anyone else. What do you suggest, that they just import everything?

Canada has been sustaining their animation industry (in country productions and imports) for many years without any problems, so I don't see why there'd be a need to change it now. I really think you're making a mountain out of a molehill here.

Yeah, why would you get upset about something like this, so much to the point that you had to start a thread.

It doesn't matter if Teletoon loses money (or not, considering how you don't really give us any viable information), just as long as people have jobs then I'm pretty sure there isn't a problem.

I get where the opening poster is coming from. Obviously the Canadian population is much smaller than the U.S. population, so advertisers aren't going to pay the Canadians networks as much since they're ratings will generally be much lower. He's asking how making their own original cartoons (which is generally a fairly expensive production) would be profitable for them. It's a reasonable question.

Most these shows are funded by the Canadian government, in order to promote Canadian culture. They funded these so kids can see Canadian stories, instead seeing more American stories, all the time, like we do everywhere esle.

Perhaps, but in all these years we've never heard anyone in Canada complaining about lack of ratings or money or whatever regarding their animation-making process. So whatever system they have going over there must be working for them. No need to fix something that isn't broken.

Yes, Canadiens work just as hard as Americans do on their Cartoons and it usually costs about 300,000 dollars to make one episode and the ratings for the show woud be 100,000 at most I'd think. Isn't that making them losing money?

If you are old enough to register in this board, you should know that ratings, money and population are VERY relative factors depending on countries. A rating of 100,000 which is mediocre in the US, can very much mean an mega hit in other countries.

Tons of countries make their own cartoons and stay afloat, so just because they would fail by US standards, it doesn't mean they'll fail in their own standards, since they were made with those in mind.
