I used to bike about 15 years ago (1994 - 1997) and used a 16T freewheel and a 38T-45T sprocket/chainwheel (depending on whether or not I'm racing). I'm piecing together an old bmx bike and am seeing really small chainwheel/freewheel combinations; like 10T freewheels and 28ish tooth sprockets. What's the "norm" for today's standards? Is there anything special I need to know when buying a crank? I want to get the Profile bmx cranks (http://www.danscomp.com/452553.php?cat=PARTS), and I know my frame (Redline Proline XL) needs the standard american bottom bracket. Any help is appreciated! Oh, and does anyone know of any trials around Seattle?
I want to add that I live in Seattle and it's very hilly here, so I'm looking for somewhat of an easier gear, NOT something equivalent to a racing setup like 45T sprocket/16T freewheel combo. Is 25/9 an "easier" gear? Thanks for the input.
