what is the name of this high school science class device?

in high school my classmate crafted a little wooden block board with some mechanical slider and parts that would electrocute the user with the dial or slider progressively as the dial increased. it was small and had some batteries i imagine. i want to make this device but cant remember the name of it for the life of me.
