What is the name of this childrens book?

I cant remember the name, but it was a book about a boy (i wanna say his name was tom maybe) who didnt have a great life at his home. He soon dound out that there was magic involved in his life, that contained this whole other world. I remember his dad was like a drunk or something, and his mom was dead.
I remember the queen of the elves was like tyrannia or titania or something..
Please dont say anything about the goddess Titania i already know about her.
