I have been hearing about the money dance or whatever its called from a few friends and online. What is it exactly? Does it take the place of a more traditional gift table for those who do not want to give a gift? Is it considered rude or crass?
What do you think?

A money dance, or dollar dance, is where the guests pay money (usually a dollar or so) to dance with the bride and/or groom. Generally, the DJ sets a number of songs and those that want to can stand in line to dance for a few seconds with the bride/groom. It does not take the place of the gift table, it is in addition to.

I tend to think it is a largely regional/cultural thing. In the northeast (I live in northeastern MA, just outside of Boston) it is hardly ever done anymore, but it used to be a lot more common.

I personally feel it's another way of asking for money and am not at all a fan. But, then again, to each his own...
