Can someone please explain.....
I don't get why a guy who i'am not dating would be saying this to me. lol. It was a im out of no where.
 
It means "I never promised you perfection"

Along with the sunshine, there has to be a little rain sometime...translated
Along with the good times, there is going to be some times that suck.

Life is not a bed of roses, see the connection? Everything is coming up roses, every rose has it's thorn...? The rose is good :)
 
The message of the song is that life is not what you expect. Life isn't a rose garden, you have to take the good with the bad. Whether a spouse, a boss, a broker, a friend, whomever - someone can't promise you the world.
Like the lyrics say, "Look before you leap, still waters run deep."
