What is the likely outcome of the Copenhagen climate change summit?

Finally someone else who is concerned for the environment - I wish everyone else here would open their eyes to all of the crap we are polluting the world with. It is a very important issue, in fact probably the most important issue.

I think the outcome of the summit will be that the leaders will get together have a chat, some nice expensive meals, consume alcohol and then return home again and continue talking about it but not actually make a decision and stick to it.

But I think Obama may be taking it seriously, and china has actually been doing quite a bit to green up - more than what most of us realise.

Who knows, keep fingers crossed for some smart ideas.

Will it be the most important meeting of all time as some suggest?
or will it be the greatest talk fest of all time?
All talk and no action?
Everyone says how important it is to reduce the so called 'carbon footprint' but which political leader is actually going to be the sacrificial lamb? Barrack Obama (hardly!!) Kevin Rudd(come on Kev i no you ain't stupid?),i think all the leaders will try to get political mileage out of the Summit without actually offering anything.

It's going to be a hell of a lot of talk and the first thing that will come up is going to run something along the lines of, "let's pretend that whole Kyoto thing never happened."

We're upwards of 30% higher than our emission-levels in the early 90s, when the nations vowed to reduce. That goal will never be reached now- not with the economy and mindset of the global population. Kyoto will be nixed and I think that they will form a new plan for reduction. I'm not saying that anything will be done against trying to reach the new goal, but a new one will be formed.

It's true. A lot of political ideals will be bounced around and at the end of the day, everyone will come out smiling and shaking hands for their image. As cynical as it sounds- the world's not going to change and if a new treaty or protocol is signed at Copenhagen, target values aren't likely to be met in the future. The politicians of today can promise whatever they want, because by the time the target time frame is reached, Mr. or Mrs. Leader isn't going to be in power and it won't be their problem.
