What is the latest on Nimiq 4?

Switch over seems to be going on - all odd TP on 82 show 0% with no video excpt for TP #3.
 
i doubt it nimiq 4 is up there to taske over some of the load from nimiq 2 cause nimiq 2 is badly crippled and failing
 
I confirm that on my receiver (Ottawa) all odd transponders at 82 (except #3) are now above 90%, with some peaking at 100%, whereas they were barely above 75% just a week ago!! Yeah!:p
 
I wonder if BellTV will air the launch live in HD, like Dish Network seem to do.?

I was pretty bummed about this too when I lost all my HD channels on 82, but actually NHL Network USA now shows most CBC and TSN games with their HD feeds! So the only one I really miss is the Sportsnet HD feeds (and SD Pacific since in northern CA i cant get all the transponders on 91 either).
 
Not sure how they overlap, but if his friend is in Minneapolis...and has no signal...and I am in Winterpeg...(less than 450 miles north)...and have seen my 82 bird signal strength jump from an average of 68% to 95%...it must be really high-tech stuff.
 
So Dish applied to the FCC for full use of N5 ... I knew that BCE would look for someway to get out of that $400M contract with Telesat (over 12 years) for N5 transponders. When you have $32B debt to paydown, every $400M counts.
 
So whats going on the customers end of the equation. Is anything going to change or will we not notice anything? Will PQ get better? Worse? Will more channels come?

Basicly what does it meen to the basic end user.
 
Any chance of the new satellite giving more bandwith for existing HD channels? Was watching some shows tonight and the quality is horrible. Nothing like it used to be when I first signed up for HD in 2004. Fox West looked bad, but most noticeable is the quality of HDNet, talk about awful. Just look at the logo in the corner, not as sharp or crisp as it was when it frist launched. It needs to go back to 1080i. Hopefully we can get more bandwith with this launch. When will the new satellite actually be in use?
 
What's typical:

1-2 days of "orbit raising" - establishing the desired orbit. Initially a satellite has a very elliptical orbit - a very wide gap between it's closest point to Earth and it's farthest.

Once this is established, it is moved to it's stable point over N.A. (82 degrees), typically a few days to a couple of weeks.

The solar array is then deployed (although some satellites deploy them shortly after the initial orbit is achieved). Point of interest - the solar array on Nimiq4 has a 128-foot wing span!).

Then thorough testing is iniated and if all goes perfectly, a satellite can be turned over to it's leasee (in this case Bell) about 30 days after launch. 30-60 days is typical.

Will Nimiq 4 Help me?

Ive always wanted BEV, instead of terrible Shaw, but I live on the side of a mountain in BC and cant get service (I could just barely get DirectTV back in the day, was able to lock on to one of the two Dish Network birds, and had start choice at one point... but never could get BEV).

Will Nimiq4 carry the whole Bell lineup, such that if I can get a signal, I could use BEV ????
 
Currently I believe that Industry Canada only approves minimum 9 degree spacing for BSS satellites such as some of those used for DTH.

The FCC on the other hand is working towards allows 4.5 degree spacing, hence the plans for the spacing scrooloose mentioned.

That being said, I imagine it is only a matter of time before IC follows suit and approves the same 4.5 degree spacing.
 
so who still has a signal in CONUS for this new 82-Nimiq4 bird, and what is your EXACT location, strength and antenna size?

Just how far south is it working?
 
Now I by pass the switch and have a cable running directly to the receiver only on 82, still no odd TP showing strength except 3. TP 1 will light up for a few seconds and show 25-=30 % then fades away.

Went to the roof and wiggled the dish nothing it seems to be just fine as last night everything was just fine. When I tried to go to guide, all it wants to do is download the guide, when thats done, try to go to guide and NO INFO shows up and the guide downloads again. The sledge hammer is close by!!
 
Some things I don't understand. All of the transponders are on the same satellite at one fixed location in the sky. Why do the signal strengths vary for different transponders on the same satellite? And why can people receive signals from one transponder but not another?

(Forgive my ignorance).
