N4 is going to 82. N2 will remain at 82 as an inorbit spare for 91/82. This is required as DTV has focused on launching Ka band satellites recently and as a result there are no more DTV dbs band junkyard dogs available to act as backups.

As Hugh said, it is cheaper to for Expressvu to upgrade to mpeg4 @82 with N4 than to go to a triple lnbf setup with an elliptical dish. That's why the N4 footprint will be different from N2.

N5 will have a different footprint than N4 in order to meet Telesat's contract with DTV for 1/2 the bandwidth on N5 @72.5

Bell's logic escapes me. Although they are not sympathetic to those in the US receiving their signals, they are more than willing to cash their monthly checks. If indeed there is a significant loss of revenue, it'll be interesting to see what action they will take. Meanwhile, I'll continue to be a happy Star Choice subscriber here in the Southern Provinces.

I am using the 55cm (22 inch) Dish that came with the system.

I recently had some painters so there may be some re-optimization which I will look at this weekend.

I may wait a week or two to see what happens and then maybe see if a 90 cms dish might help further.

Merve04...

It is for the French language programming. There is none of that, or very little, available in the states. DirecTV has none and DishNetworks has TV5 and some other channel. But nothing like TVA or LCN.

It was awesome to watch Gilles Duceppe during the debates.

I am not in Minnesota but a friend of mine is at 44.7N
If it truly is a Canadian satellite, how the hell do they make such a sharp cut from Southern Ontario to NW Ontario blocking out Michigan, Wisconsin & Minnesota

Matters not really that the middle SAT is the highest

both DTV and Dish use dish's with multiple LNBS 3 or 4 or more. No one lives exactly in the right spot

Sure do - MPEG4 and 8PSK require higher threshold signal levels than MPEG2 and QPSK. N4 should allow Bell to deliver these types of signals to the west coast. Rainfade there was bad there with the old satellites even in MPEG2/QSPK.

Could be, this is the trouble shooting I have done

changed the 91 and 82 cables around on my switches, did a check switch still the same all on 91 only even on 82, switches seem fine

then switched LNB's on my dishes(2 dishes 1 for 91 and 1 for 82) did a check switch and still the same all on 91 and only even on 82. So I ruled out that the switches are bad and the lnbs are bad. Also did memory dumps still the same.

Only TP3 is showing 78% all other 0. They were all fine in the 80's last night???

People in the states are either using a Broker with a Canadian address, or the user has a Canadian billing address. Try getting service with an American address and see how far you get.

The deal with DirecTV is that once Bell gets Nimiq 5 in place at 72.5 then the lease DirecTV has to use that orbital location expires. That is not to say that Bell will not then turn around and rent the room back to DirecTV, but the word on the street is that they are trying to transition their users off of 72.5 due to i) A 1 Dish solution instead of a wing dish and ii) in anticipation of Bell renting all 32 TPs to Dish.

With that said, I still hold out hope that Bell/Dish work out an agreement for use of Nimiq5 and Ciel 2 at both 72.5 and 129, where Dish gets half of the TPs on both and Bell gets to use the other half for HD and such (probably setting up a mirror of the two dishes for the east and west coast).

By west you mean east, but yes if Bell decides they want to use 72.7w (or 72.5w) for theirself, they would probably be best served to then lease capacity from Ciel at 129w and mirror the two satellites. With that said, they could just choose to use 72.7w only for content that is applicable to those in eastern canada (more french hd) or whatever they see fit.

Well, I decided to get on-line tonight to see if something was up with BEV service that might have explained the signal loss down here in Central Fl and I guess I found the answer. I was hoping that some of the rainy/cloudy weather of late may have been the culprit.

Right now, I am not getting anything on any of 82's TP's other than a 64 on TP2. I have a Dish Network dish which is either 20 or 24", can't remember.

I am also seeing some issues with the remaining channels that I do get in and checking the 91 sat signal I have found about 9 transponders with a signal in the range of 48-52 and it is a perfectly clear night tonight. The others are all good - in the 85 to 95 range with a high of 98. Unfortunately I never noted where these signals were before so I can't tell if they are lower or not. Is anyone having difficulty with 91 as well?

I suppose I will hang on for a while and see if a definitive footprint can be determined or if anyone has success with a larger dish and think about that. I will however miss my HNIC in HD!:(

I am reading the same Hurricane. Here I see Sept. 17th. as a possible date for Nimiq 4. Notice the Inmarsat launch today (Aug. 18th. - 6:43pm EDT) via a Proton if I am reading this date correctly.

From Hurricane's URL, "We will be watching the Inmarsat launch closely."...

Here's hoping that goes well.

Just found this: LIVE COVERAGE: Proton Inmarsat-4 F3 Launch
...August 18, 2008: The Proton M rocket stands ready on the launch pad for the launch...

UPDATE
From the above link, so far so good. Looks like this went much better than the AMC-14 launch. I assume that helps Nimiq 4 to launch on schedule on the 17th. or near it.

22:53 GMT (6:53 pm EDT): Successful shutdown of the third stage. The primary launch phase of the Proton is concluded. The satellite is now in a suborbital trajectory together with the Breeze M fourth stage, that will fire several times over the next 9 hours to achieve the correct orbit.

So a Receiver swap Pinza? I thought 8PSK was easier right now (aside from the model 6000's).

Mike the is a same problem with Canadians getting Direct Tv or Dish Network.

Don't be angry with us???

DBS 12.2-12.7 gHz require 9 degrees of separation
The spacing is no magic or mystery

Does not matter if it is French or English programming, it is against Bell TV's CSA that it be received in the United States.

What is the latest on Nimiq 4? I thought it was suppose to be launched in the spring. My searching of this forum and the internet, only mention that. I can't find any news on it being launched or delayed. Does anyone know the latest on this satellite, and when BEV will be using it? Thanks.
