What is the issue if the left and right sound is coming out of the wrong speakers in...

...my car stereo? I just noticed on a particular song that I like that the sound that should be coming out of the left speaker is coming out of the right and vice-versa. What could be the issue here?
 
Sometimes it does matter usually in a car though the imaging is not that good anyway so it may not matter as long as the rear speakers are wired the same way..if the rear speakers are wired correct and the front incorrect you could get phase interference, although I have seen installations where the rears are wired out of phase and it sounds better!!! Cars are weird places for sound...it depends on where they are placed and how far apart the speakers are...
 
whoever wired up the wires from the car speakers to the car stereo got the left side and right side mixed up on the wiring...but does it honestly matter which side?
