What is the history of the pentacle in the apples?

If you cut through the core of an apple, you see a five pointed star. I'm a practicing pagan, and I'm surprised I didn't know this already. AN apple is a feminine symbol in Celtic Paganism, and represents the fertility goddess, Kore...and others similar around the region. It also is a symbol for knowledge and enlightenment. These symbols came around in matriarchal societies, long before Judeo-CHristian patriarchy came into being...it almost seems like the Adam and Eve story in Judeo-CHristianity was a way of antagonizing women and blotting out the femenine aspects of nature. In the same way, surpents represented wisdom and knowledge in various other cultures, but I guess that's Satan's minions trying to hide THE TRUTH from humanity.
