they an old Virginia family?
John: "illegal?" How can a question be "illegal?" That's ridiculous. I'm asking because there were lost Germanna Colonies in Virginia and the family name Coons was very significant. I'm wondering if they are descendants.
I see that "John" has removed his statement. Maybe he saw the error of his ways in calling a simple question "illegal."
Thank you Psychologynut. Many families are proud of their lineage and make it known, like the Kennedys, the Bushs, etc. Just wondering if the Koons ever talked about theirs.

i don't know about the history... but they may be related to the koons car dealerships here in Maryland. actually they are i just searched in MD and the little blurp that popped up said VA, MD & DE.

in terms of legality - technically all sorts of historical records are not relased for 70 years like the census (this is why the census records are only available thru 1930's until next year on sites like ancestory.com.) but i know on MD birth certf application you have to show proof of kin for requesting records less than 100 years. (If you are really interested you may want to see if VA has some kind of clause like that because technically this stipulates that records older than 100 years are readily availbale here in MD.)

all that to say that since you are merely asking a question - which i believe falls under freedom of speech - unless the Koons or you are terrorists. and i think you are looking for a whole different place and time.
