Hi i was just wondering what is the expected outcome when crossing white eyed male fruit flies with vermillion eyed females for the first generation (F1) and second generation (F2). Both vermillion and white eyed are on sex chromosomes and are both reccessive.
Our F1 result was all the fruit flies had vermillion eyes both male and female. Our F2 result from males and females from F1 was some males with white eyes and vermillion eyed males and females but no white eyed females (which was expected)
It is possilbe because they are different genes that code for eye color. Fruit flies exhibit many different types of eye colors and red is the dominant and white eye is usually the known recessive but you get variations of eye color. Its obviously possible because we got results.
