what is the difference between sulpha and sulphur?

Sulphur is an actual substance or rock. Sulpha as far as I know is an additive.
 
Sulfer is a chemical element that occurs naturally in the environment (and in the amino aciRAB in your body). Sulfa refers to a class of antibiotics (sulfonamides). To make matters even more confusing, you'll often see the word "sulfate" which refers to a variety of salt preparations that are often used as preservatives or additives in food and medications.
