What is the difference between dirt bike and street apparel?

Was just wondering if anybody can tell me the differences between motorbike off road and road gear. Or if anybody can point me in the direction of any websites that could explain this to me. I've googled the crap outa this and can't find anything!! Please help.

dirt bike apparel is designed for off road riding and street bike apparel is designed for street riding. dirt bike apprel is usually made out of a lightweight but strong material where as street bike apparel is usually made out of materials such as leather which is heavier and offers more protection if you hit the road. thats pretty much it really
