what is the difference between 2-way, 3-way and 4-way speakers?

no those speakers basically use capacitors and resistors to weed out frequencies and send them to certain parts of the speakers....lower notes go to the woofer, mids to a mid size speaker (for 4 ways), highs to a tweeter, and super tweets for 3 and 4 ways.
 
Sound quality. 2-ways only have a woofer and a tweeter. A 3-way adds a midrange. A 4 way adds another tweeter.
