Islamic extremism (the violent kind) originated out of tribes in saudi arabia. these tribes were funded by oil money which they used to set up extremist schools and military training in the region.
the US says it opposes violent fundamentalism but maintains its close relationship to its oldest ally saudi arabia while imposing sanctions on Iran. Iran in comparision to saudi arabia looks like a free democratic society. Saudi arabia is an extremely fundamentalist country but it enjoys close ties with the US.

What is really going on between US and Iran?

as for nuclear weapons, Iran apparently agreed to stop all uranium enrichment programs including the non-military use in exchange for the EU guaranteeing protection from the US and their threats and sanctions, the EU was unsuccessful as i understand and it sill continues. i read that this happened in 2004-2005.
Ryan M: thats just not true, Saudi arabia is more fundamentalist than Iran but it has no problems with ppl of other religions neither does countless other islamic countries in the world. so its not a problem of religion its a problem of politics
