What is the deal with this rash on my butt?

I have been dealing with this rash in the crack of my butt for several years now.

I thought it wasn't that bad appearance wise, but after my girlfriend commented on it the other day I looked at it and it was VERY red.

Basically, I have a very red rash that is only inside the crack of my butt where the skin touches. It runs from the back of my perineum to the top of my "crack" and in around that whole area. Both it and my anus itch, sometimes not at all for almost a whole day, sometimes enough that it about drives me nuts, and most of the time somewhere in between.

The itch has been there for a long time in that whole general area but the rash was not this red last time I bothered to look at it which was probably months ago.

For whatever reason I suffer from profuse perspiration in that area and on my butt cheeks themselves. I'll get perspiration there even when I'm sitting in a chair, and it's way worse if I'm actually doing physical activity (enough to soak through my pants). It's embarrassing, I think it may be the cause of this rash, and when there is a lot of it down there I think it aggravates everything and causes it to itch more. The skin in that area always feels "moist" and it often feels like I am scraping off dead skin with my fingernails when I itch.

I really don't know what to do with this thing, and I'm really embarrassed about the possibility of seeing a doctor about it. I got some diaper rash ointment last night and I'm trying it to see if it will do anything, but it doesn't seem to do much about the itch. Maybe I should try Preparation H?

Sounds like you are headed in the right direction with getting some ointment. The other possibility that I have heard about anal itchy etc... is an over growth of yeast in the body. You may consider that too. And that requires de yeasting the body. Those are the only two things I can think of.I am sure you will get it figured out. Good luck!

No it has nothing to do with the Monistat thing that girls use. It is your diet. If you are eating alot of white starchy food, white sugars etc...you need to cut back on that. You can look online on what foods to eat. But I would start with that. I had this happen to me and it's not fun all the itchy and it does get sweaty. Just being honest. If you change your diet to fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats etc... I think you really might see that go away. Just do a little research online. But you won't be needing monistat. This has to do with the foods you are consuming. Also a build up of use of antibiotics in your system can cause this.

Let us know if you get to feeling better. I know you will! Good luck!

Try reading the Anti Yeast Diet.

What this doctor proposes is that every body has a certain level of tolerance to yeast. Some of us can tolerate more yeast than others. So you start by getting rid of all foods with yeast or foods that are yeast producing. And you would be surprised by what likes yeast! I have a friend who went off of yeast and then started gradually adding it back into her diet. You can reach a level where you feel good with a certain small amount or large depending upon the person, in your diet...It's an interesting concept and it certainly does work for some people...
