What is the culture of a university?

The campus culture is that combination of undefinable qualities which differentiates one college from another. For example, one campus may be heavily influenced by football and Greek organizations (fraternities and sororities), while another may be influenced by the fact that most of the students are commuters who come from a particular area, or by the type of diversity which exists there. I visited one school a couple of years ago in another country in which the students all took every opportunity to run outside to catch a cigarette, even in the rain, and everyone seemed nervous and unhappy. The main activity for the day was a lecture on "suffering". On the other hand, you might go to another campus where everyone is outgoing and friendly, or highly political, or into community service, and that lends an air to the kind of place that it is.
