What do abstract art enthusiasts look for to decide what is good and what is crap, and can you make any money if you are alive, or do you have to be dead for your art to sell? I like making abstract art, so I want to know what is everyone in the abstract art world looking for?

With any kind of art, what makes it valuable is that someone likes it and is willing to pay money for it. However, with abstract art, the ability to draw well is no longer an issue so is becomes less about the artist's painting/drawing skills and more about the concept behind it. Most abstract art conveys something such as an emotion or idea and if that speaks to someone, it becomes valuable in a dollar sense. It's very difficult to make money off of art, but not impossible to do while alive. I would give it a try since it's what you like to do and just see what happens, but art is really something you should do because you like to do it and less about money. Most artists have a "day job" to pay the bills and make art in their spare time. Good luck and hope that helps!
