Don't get a 250, look at craigslist or ebay, there's a million people selling them, they buy them to learon on, get sick of them 2 weeks later and try to sell to trade up. They all want to get all their money back so you see people selling used 250's for cheaper than you could get a brand new year old model the dealer still has.
If all you want is a 250 to commute on or something go for it but if your looking to ride and plan on eventually moving up to something bigger start out on a 500 orr 600. I really like the Suzuki GS500 as a starter bike, enough power to last oyu a few years but small enough to learn on, plus its a nice style . The ninja 500 also isn't bad
