My boyfriend lives about 100 yards from his parents (who have internet) and my laptop will not pick up their wireless network. He rarely ever uses the internet so he feels no need in paying monthly for it. So I'm thinking about buying a wireless router for his parents house and a wireless usb adapter for my laptop so that I can use internet while I'm there.
