I teach high school physics. Last year I did a lot of labs with the students and had them write reports or explanations in class as tests. This was ok but the problems were: 1)I was giving too many tests all the time with the lab tests on top of the chapter tests. 2)Some students would just memorize what they were supposed to say in the report and wouldn't really learn it.
The problem with letting students do lab reports on their own is I know they will copy from each other. Any other ideas?
