What is the best way to play my ipod in my car?

I have one of those cassett players that connections my ipod to the car's audio system but for some reason it won't go nearly as loud as the radio goes. I've already checked to make sure the volume on the ipod is all the way up. Is there a better way to connect my ipod to my car or do i just need a better audio system?
