Like said, that happens to us all. I have a metal ring about 3 inches around with a small openining with a closure on it. and 4 large treble hooks with the points and barbs cut off. and a strong cord attached. You can slide it down the line and most of the time it will hook onto your lure and allow you to bring it up. Thery sell these at cabela's I'm not sure what it is called.

if you are using bait, just use a lighter leader to the hook and if it breaks off, that's all you will lose. fish hang out in the snag infested areas. you may also try a float keeping your hook just above the snags.

Point the rod tip straight at it and hold your rod as low and as far away from your face as possible.

Put your hand over the spool on a spinning real ot thumb a bait caster tight.

Pull straight back.

Most of the time (51 +-%) you'll get your gear back. That's one thing to give motivation to improve casting or drifting skills.
