What is the best way to generate power in my swing?

Some people tell me bat speed, and others just tell me pure strength....what is the actual answer? Also, I sometimes have a lot of trouble pulling the ball, especially when I bat left handed, right handed I do ok but not great, so how do I pull the ball?
If a lot of it is basically based on how strong you are, what are some exercises that can help increase the power I can generate?

it has a lot to do with bat speed and solid contact with the ball. the better your eye and the more efficient the body transfers the kenetic energy from body to ball the further the ball is going to go. the kenetic energy starts in the legs then it goes up to your core up through your arms and into the bat and into the ball. Ever wonder how players like Alexei Ramirez, Alex Rios, and the young Barry Bonds (when he was on the pirates) hit the ball so far? Training the body to effeciently do the task is the answer to power.

Its all in the hips and legs. More powerful hip rotation and more drive from the back leg will not only produce more power, but will also give you a faster bat speed. Improving this will give you your greatest improvement over all. However, improving abdominal and oblique muscle strength will also help. Upper body strength will help with power, but of the three options listed, it is the least productive. It takes a LOT of upper body strength to simply muscle one out, and some can do that. For those with average strength, focus on the hips, legs and core is the best.
