Sell it, and get a better car.
You can spend a lot of money, and repair it....or just spend that money and get a nicer car to start with.
Why put all the effort into something, when there's an easier alternative?
And for the last note, who cares what your friends think? If they were true friends, they wouldn't criticize you for your car. They would help you with it. Keep that in mind.
