I have tried to do this by connecting my Xbox 360 to my laptop using an ethernet cable, then connecting to the internet (via an Orange mobile broadband dongle plugged into my laptop). I enabled sharing on my internet connection. My laptop uses Windows XP.
Initially I did actually manage to do this successfully. However once connected my Xbox stated that I needed to do a software update, which I completed, and then once the update had installed my Xbox restarted normally. Since the update I have tried connecting to Xbox Live exactly how I did before, but the connection always fails during the 'connect to network' stage rather than the 'connect to internet' stage. It says it cannot find the IP address of my internet connection.
I am not an expert in these sort of things so can anybody give me any suggestions where I am going wrong, or an alternative way to connect to Xbox Live using a mobile broadband dongle.
