What is the best way to ask the girl you like to a Formal dance?

I want to ask a girl i like to the dance but I don't want to be boring about it and i want to make it as hard for her to say no as possible :D. Anyways girls any tips or ways you can think of you would like to be asked to the dance, any ideas would be appreciated thanks. I have a class with her and I'm gonna ask her then prolly.
Oh and im asking her in class around her friends.... would that be bad or make her embarrassed or pressured? If so please lemme know. Cause im hoping it shows my "confident" side haha.
 
well i would like a guy that can ask me out without his friends telling me instead of him and by going up to me without anyone around and just saying "what would you say if i asked you out to the dance?"
i think written things can be sweet but a bit awkward.
that's just my opinion.
