What is the best way of using an electric bike?

I have a battery operated two-wheeler. The company claims fullly charged it can run about 40 miles. Earlier I used it extensively. It used to run approximately 40 miles as per their claims. Now as my travelling has decreased I need to use it for only 25 miles daily. I charge it only when it is fully discharged. Now, it is running only 25 miles even after fully charged. Did I make a mistake in using the battery. I want to purchase a new battery. I need some advice on the usage part.
 
depends how much you used it see batterys lose some of there storage space but not 40% i would check on there warranty and see if anything covers that kind of thing if not then it sounds like you will need a new battery
