What is the best type of energy?

solar energy..because its free and no contamination leakage..and it cannot start another war!! and it does not harm the environment and it promises a safe environment to our future children unlike nuclear..

nuclear! seriously.

the threat that a nuclear reactor poses is widely overblown in the general public. our naval ships use two small nuclear reactors for power, and you dont hear about nuclear meltdowns at sea.

yes, there is the radioactive waste, but considering the amount of power generated relative to the amount of pollution produced, it kicks the crap out of oil or coal.

i didnt pick a renewable energy source because i honestly dont think they're realistic in their ability to generate enough power to reach the energy demands of the population. i wont complain if someone proves me wrong on that one, but even so, it would take a loooooooooooooong time to create a renewable energy system that large

Nuclear generated power is by far the best. It is the cheapest per Kw to produce, It has little to no impact on the environment, and it is the most reliable and simplest to connect to the power grid. It does not consume non renewable resources and has virtually no limit to where it can be generated.

Wind power is costly, and the costs is just a little less than coal firing per Kw. It is not a reliable option for base load power but I do believe it is the better option over coal. Wind power must be located where wind speeds are great enough to spin the rotors.

Natural gas is also a better option over coal, as it is clean burning. There is an abundance of natural gas right now.

I also think ethanol is a viable fuel source for autos. There must be a cheap way to manufacture it, however. Right now there is research for using fast growing hybrid trees in which to use to make ethanol. This would be great at more trees are planted, thereby reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air.

Solar is good but very costly to capture. In my opinion, it is much cheaper to let nature capture it, such as trees, and then us develop the trees into fuel, as stated above.

Hybrid and electric cars must lug heavy, expensive batteries which go out from time to time and limit anyone going on a trip with any amount of distance over 30 miles.

Hydrogen is not safe to handle and store, so that one is out.

wind, rivers, ocean and solar thermal radiation. they are all clean and renewable.

nuclear power produces a small amount of nuclear waste. there is no safe way to dispose of that because it remains deadly for hundreds of thousands of years after we're gone. we have no right to poison future generations in that way.

send it into space? yeah! imagine if a rocket containing nuclear waste exploded.

in the future there could be space elevators that can safely send nuclear waste out into space. or better yet, a way to sustain a cold fusion reaction long enough to extract energy from it.

but for now, it's wind, water can sun.
