What is the best site to get a domain name?

I am starting up a webiste and want to own the rights to my domain name. I have no idea which site is better. I have started building my website on wix.com and want to continue to use it or should I switch to whoever I buy the domaain name through. I am very confused on domain names. I am not sure how it works either.

1.the domain name should be short as much as possible.
2.Avoid boldface, underline and other meaningless symbols.
3.Choose. COM domain name.
4.Unique.
5.Name should be related to the content in the website .
