what is the best pedal assist device for my bicycle?

I had and ezip once and it wasn't very good and thes chinese motor deals are illegal where I live and the electric kits are threw the roof high dollar. When I bought my ezip a year or so back it was 215.00 with tx but now they outrageous what is a good compromise for my existing bike
