I use XP and everything is set to automatically play every type of file through Windows Media Player. Two of my recently downloaded .avi files are having problems with WMP due to(from the error msg help info) that my sound card isn't working properly. I did all the checks and updates etc etc and still have the same problems with only these couple of downloaded .avi files.

I have the latest updates of Quicktime(7.6) & Realplayer(11.1.3) & WMP(11)

One of the .avi files plays perfectly with Real Player, plays on Quicktime without audio and video(with no error messages) and also plays perfectly on WMP.

The other problem file plays the audio perfectly in Realplayer but no video. WMP shows I have a problem with my audio device even though I get all the audio from the file and Quicktime again shows it is playing the file but there is no audio or video.

Both of these .avi files i have copied to CD and both play perfectly through my cheap LG DVD player that is connected to my TV.

Why don't they play on the 3 mainstream media players on my PC?
Is there better PC media players other than QT/WMP/RP that accept the same files as my cheapo DVD player?

Surely if my cheapo LG dvd player can play a simple .avi file, why can't the 3 most common PC audio/video players recognise the files?
