what is the best fish for a ten gallon fish tank? and what should the temp be?

You can get a school of guppies or any tropical fish. I set my temp to 65 and it works just fine. You can get a chart from petsmart for free which gives more information on diffrent fishes and their compatabilities. They are very knowledgable and I just followed there instructions when I first got them an year ago and I am still enjoying my acquarium.
 
depending on what you like i would prefer black skirt tetras there gentle and cool looking and blue gouramis there gentle to. the temprature about 78 degrees.
 
you have allot of options

1 male beta
4 cory cats

or

1 male beta
10 Ghost shrimp

or

8 neon tetras

or

6 harlequin rasboras

5 serpate tetras

or

6 male guppys

or

5 male platies



they should all be at 74-79 degrees farenhiet


some tips for small tanks;

do not mix betas and guppys

do not house 2 or more male bettas together

do not mix betas and gouramis

do not keep nippy fish like serpate tetras and tiger barbs with bettas, guppys, and fish with long fins

in small tanks do not keep goldfish unless you can clean it alot an can upgrade soon

do not use an undergravel filter

cycle your aquarium before puting fish in it

some fish may look small and cute in the petstore but reserch before you buy!!! (ex. oscar, angel)

in your tank do not buy a plec, pleco or plecostsumus, the get at least a foot long!

get a geavel vaccum and do 2 gallon wwater changes weekly

never! do a 100% water change

get a cover, fish jump!

never put a goldfish in a heated tank

do not rely on advice from petco, petsmart or walmart

i would suggest

1 male betta and 2 pygmy cory cats or

6 male guppies or

6 cherry barbs or

6 neon tetras or

2 pygmy cory cats and 3 guppies or

2 dwarf gouramis 1 male 1 female and 2 pygmy cory cats or

some cherry shrimp or

male betta and apple snail or

2 female bettas or

5 glo light tetra or

1 chocolate gourami or

1 killifish and 2 pygmy cory cats or

1 killifish and a apple snail or

4 platys and 2 pygmy cory cats or

3 sword tails 1 male 2 female or

6 pygmy cory cats or

1 dwarf puffer but you need a well established tank that has gone through its cycle. a chalaging fish to keep NOT for beginners. or

3 african dwarf frogs they are fully aquatic and stay very small. do not get the african CLAWED frog because they get very big and are aggresive. african dwarf frog does not come in a albino colour only dark colours.

i would keep the temp at 24 - 26 degrees centergrade

none of these fish are salt water they are all freshwater fish
