What is the best economy car that is attractive yet under $20,000?

My wife has a Highlander and I have a Ridgeline. We want an economy car, but we don't want to give up our SUVs. We have looked at the Prius and the Civic, and we don't like either one. What is the best economy car that is attractive yet under $20,000?
