What is the best bike for a 6 year old?

My 6-year old is asking Santa for a bike. So, "Santa" is not very familiar with brands, but looking into getting something good quality and easy to use. Any hints? Should I get it from Walmart/Target or go to specialized stores? Thanks!
Nothing against Walmart/Target - but the last one we got broke almost right away. So, this time I am not looking into character (I explain it to my now 6yr old - if you take a poop and put Barbie sticker on it - it's still a poop :)). I just need something sturdy, so it would last at least couple years.

I got my six year olds bikes off the rack at Wal-Mart. They were already put together and had the streamers and everything. All you have to do is make sure that the bike is big enough for the child, but still small enough that he/she can touch the ground with his/her toes with butt on the seat.

if you really want to go to a specialty store, you can, but at that age, there really is no need. kids that age like characters, so go with something you think they would like. or, you can take him/her bike shopping as a "test drive" for the one to ask Santa for. nothing hurts if you come prepared, right? have him/her get on, make sure it's a proper fit, pick out the character if one is wanted, and choose a helmet. walk out of the store, and go see Santa. your kid can tell Santa exactly what he/she expects for Christmas! Good Luck!

We have gotten all our bikes from Walmart..they have the best prices. It doesnt matter quality at this age, my son rode a 2 weeler from walmart at age 5. It was a Hot Wheels bike, he got it for his 4th birthday, we took the training wheels off last summer. He got a bigger bike from walmart for his 6th birthday. You dont have to spend alot, just get something fun and flashy! A horn would be a great accessory. Don't forget the helmet! I think the bike we got was less than $50, it is still in great condition just to small.
The bikes at walmart are put together...ready to ride. I took my son there, had him test a few out and he told me which one he liked. We just so happened to be there and came upon the bike sectin..ooh look bikes, do you want to look at them? You could do that...just so Santa will know which bike fits him best. You want to get something he likes and can ride. I like it when they pick something out, but it is a surprise...Hey...this is the bike I wanted! It makes it more exciting....Santa does know what I like!!!!
