What is the best approach for my husband's broken wisdom tooth?

We haven't been able to afford a dental plan so we weren't able to get my husband's wisdom teeth pulled. It was only a minor annoyance to him, since only one of them had a cavity. That cavity seemed to have really done an unseen toll because a portion of his tooth broke off and we can now see the inside of his tooth, which I think is the pulp.

We can't afford much so we're looking for the cheaper option of having it removed, or having it filled (which I doubt would work without a root canal or something). I'm assuming we're gonna need to do something about it as soon as possible because it's a health risk. We can hold off going tonight to avoid raising the costs for a medical emergency, but we still need to figure out the cheapest approach, while keeping his health in mind.

Is there a government assistance program in Louisiana that will help low-income families? I'm talking about something other than Medicaid because it's too late to try and get coverage right now.

Anyone know how much it'd cost to get a wisdom tooth pulled in Louisiana anyway?
