what is the best age to get a child a fish?

I say around 5. That way they are old enough to understand that fish need to stay in the water. :]
 
Well really fish aren't that hard to take care of.
They may need help just to clean the tank.

Probably from 3-5 years old.

Goldfish is the best option as well--Few things teach responsibility, while giving out love and care than a Goldfish. =)

my sister had 2 at 4 and one she deiced would sleep with her and the other she wanted to hug and squeezed to death not a good idea til 5 or 6
 
i would get a goldfish instead of a beta. Goldfish live much longer. i think age 5 or 6 would be a good age.
