So this has been bugging me for awhile. I honestly can't see what is so appealing. The only competitive sport I played was little league baseball when I was like 10 and the only thing I remember was my coach screaming at us that we were losers. So maybe some people who played competitive sports later on in say high school or college can explain it. ( I was usually in the music room so I never had time to go to a pep rally so i didn't even know the jocks except when they were stuffing me into a locker or two)

You're biased because of one coach and the stereotypical 'jock' treatment to you in highschool.

Competitiveness is -not- a bad thing. If you don't have drive to win, or achieve success, then you're just existing.
