I'm an American staying at a guest house in Thailand, so I meet many people from other countries on a nightly basis, and last night I had a discussion with a Dutch man who claimed that American's have no culture beyond our 'corporate culture' (ie, McDonalds, Coca-Cola ect)
I argued that we did have a genuine culture, but its simply that the corporate culture is what gets exported to the rest of the world, but it was hard for me to explain, so I want to put this question before all other Americans, what is our culture? Can we define it and if so, what defines our culture?
I realize that because of our 'melting pot' population, we have many pockets of sub-cultures, but is there one main, multi-ethnicity culture that prevails over all 50 states?
Thanks and I look forward to reading the answers
