what is spring recess of colleges?

I'm very surprised that we don't have spring recess in my college. Is it like a temporary break in spring term? what do the students do during the recess?
 
Hi, I live in the USA. Here our colleges, and actually our schools from kindergarten thru high school have spring break usually during March where I live. Its next week here.

During the week, of course there is no school and the students in college usually either go home to visit family/friends or they will sometime travel and go on road trips for vacation. (Party sometimes.) Some students use that time to study or work on papers due later.

when I was in college, I went home to see my family! I think some schools let the dormitories stay open to students, so that if they don't have anywhere to go or if they have a job then they can still stay on campus.

That would be Spring Break. It's usually a week long recess at the middle of the semester. Most college students like to take a vacation to the beach.
