Expensive stuff, saffron rice is a popular dish. If your cheap like me, you can substitute turmeric for a similar taste and look
 
Saffron is a natural color inducing ingredient derived from Saffron flower. Used while cooking in far east, South Asian And middle eastern recipes to make the dish look orange (saffron color) which also intensifies taste and texture of the food cooked.

It is also mixed with warm milk which is believed to be a good drink for the pregnant women that gives the baby a fair color.
